State Highway A1A is a scenic boulevard as you travel through Cocoa Beach and the many other
beach side communities on Florida's East Coast.
Florida. It stretches past swaying palms along
our coastline and pass some of our 7,700 lakes where colorful fish can
be seen jumping out of the azure blue water against a background
of white clouds and an unmatchable blue sky.
Our beautiful beaches along our entire coastline are 663 miles in
length and the number of islands more than ten acres is 4,500! Many
islands are inhabited by many species of colorful birds
that are well-protected by the rich vegetation that also provides
shelter for their young.
To the north of Cocoa Beach are two other famous towns, St. Augustine for its history and
Daytona Beach for the Daytona Speedway and the home of the NASCAR.
St Augustine is the oldest city in the United States. Written records
about life in Florida began with the arrival
of the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon in 1513 about April 2nd. He
was so impressed with the beauty of the new land that he called the
area la Florida, in honor of Pascua florida
("feast of the flowers’), Spain’s Easter time celebration.
Spain was not the only European country that found Florida to be a land
of beauty. In 1562, a French Protestant, Jean
Ribault, and two years later, another countryman, Rene Goulaine, came
to our beautiful State and enjoyed the tranquil environment,
The same tranquility is still here that you can enjoy when you take
your next Florida vacation. Visit us on the
east coast and enjoy the Atlantic’s most renowned stretch of tropical
beaches.
